History

Gorky Motorcycle Plant commenced operations in 1941 with the transfer of plant and equipment from
Kharkov Motorcycle Plant Kharkiv ( uk, Ха́рків, ), also known as Kharkov (russian: Харькoв, ), is the second-largest city and municipality in Ukraine.
(KhMZ) and Leningrad Motorcycle Plant (LMZ), which was necessitated by the German armies threatening Kiev and
Leningrad Saint Petersburg ( rus, links=no, Санкт-Петербург, a=Ru-Sankt Peterburg Leningrad Petrograd Piter.ogg, r=Sankt-Peterburg, p=ˈsankt pʲɪtʲɪrˈburk), formerly known as Petrograd (1914–1924) and later Leningrad (1924–1991), i ...
. Production ceased in 1949 and all plant and equipment was transferred to KMZ (КМЗ) in Kiev. About 100 employees moved to Kyiv as well.
