He was born in

. His father was a

and he was the fifth of twelve children. Although he drew from an early age, it was intended that he would follow his father's trade. In 1876, however, the family doctor saw some his work and was impressed. He advised them to seek out the opinion of François-Auguste Ravier, a painter and former colleague of Camille Corot, who lived in the nearby village of Morestel.Association François Guiguet: Biography
