as a son of consul Rasmus Flor Kjeldsberg (1828–1897) and Harriet Southern (1834–1924). In 1899 he married Margrethe Berg, daughter of merchant Claus Nissen Riiber Berg (1832–1915). Their daughter Harriet married chief physician Odd Kjeldsberg Stub. He graduated from Kristiania Commerce School in 1887, and studied abroad for one year. He was hired in the family company ''R. Kjeldsberg'' in 1890, and was the company owner from 1897 to 1927. From 1897 he was also a
