The Adventist Church historically strongly advocated that students gain vocational training experience as part of their education. The carrot farm provides the students with such practical work experience. Students also meet their weekly career and technical training requirement by being assigned to various departments in campus development and upkeep, digital media, janitorial, cafeteria, or the office.

on LGBTQ+ students. A 2019 Parliamentary report from the University of British Columbia showed that 1-in-3 Canadians who had undergone conversion therapy later attempted suicide. In 2021 another student came forward with similar conversion therapy allegations. On January 7, 2022, Canada outlawed

on minors and adults nationwide, with violations carrying up to 5 years in prison for "everyone who knowingly causes another person to undergo conversion therapy", according to the Canadian Criminal Code Section 320.101.
