It has been in operation since 1938. Lone Tree Cemetery is located there, though it is often considered as being located in nearby Hayward, and is the burial site for William Dutton Hayward, the namesake of Hayward. Fairview is served by the Hayward Unified School District. As of April 2025, the official mailing address for residences in Fairview changed from "Hayward, CA" (implying that residents were part of unincorporated Hayward) to "Fairview, CA".
