Venant de Tlemcen , le Comte d'Alcaudete marcha sur la ville . Le 21 août , il arriva à Mazagran , puis s'avança jusqu'aux abords de la cité , engagea le combat en tirant plus de cent boulets contre les puissantls murailles . Ensuite , on entreprit le siège de la ville ; ceci n'empêcha point les point les assiégés de procéder à des sorties éclairs pour frapper l'ennemi. Mais il n'y avait que 40 Turcs à l'intérieur de la ville. Le danger était grand.”

on the 21st of August which he then laid siege to. There was only 40 men to defend the city, however the Spanish attack was defeated. Another Spanish expedition against the city was defeated in 1558.
