From the 1950s to the 1970s, Aronson was one of the leading chess players in the United States. She won the United States Women's Chess Championship in 1972. Also she four times won United States Women's Open Chess Championship: 1953, 1961, 1969, and 1973. In 1967, Aronson participated in the Women's World Chess Championship Candidates Tournament in
