Founded in 1913, when 13 Swedish printing and graphic businesses joined forces to create the company ''Sveriges Litografiska Tryckerier''—abbreviated ''SLT''—in 1970, the company renamed itself Esselte, reflecting the pronunciation of the abbreviation.
