of Somaliland ( so, Astaanta Qaranka Somaliland, ar, شعار أرض الصومال), was introduced on 14 October 1996 along with the
flag of Somaliland A flag is a piece of fabric (most often rectangular or quadrilateral) with a distinctive design and colours. It is used as a symbol, a signalling device, or for decoration. The term ''flag'' is also used to refer to the graphic design emp ...
, when it was approved by the National Conference. It was introduced by Abdullahi Abdi Omar (Jawaan). Having declared its independence on 18 May 1991, the region's self-declared independence remains unrecognised by any country or international organization.

. The British developed a flag for the region and also an emblem. The emblem featured a white disc with an image of a
