Early life and education

Elizabeth Falker was born on February 12, 1966, in San Francisco, California, and raised in Southern California. Her father was an art professor. Falkner graduated from the
San Francisco Art Institute San Francisco Art Institute (SFAI) was a private college of contemporary art in San Francisco, California. Founded in 1871, SFAI was one of the oldest art schools in the United States and the oldest west of the Mississippi River. Approximately ...
in 1989 with a BFA degree.


Career

Her first restaurant job was as a dishwasher at French bistro Cafe Claude in San Francisco. She moved into French fine dining at Masa's with Chef

In 1997, Falkner opened Citizen Cake, a dessert cafe at its first location in the

In 2011, Falkner closed both of her San Francisco establishments, Citizen Cake and Orson, and moved to New York, where she opened two short-lived Italian restaurants, Krescendo in
