History

Edzell Woods is located on part of the old

, from 1960 until its decommissioning in 1996, finally closing in 1997. Following the closure of the base, the houses, airfield, and administrative buildings were put up for sale. The married quarters (houses) were purchased by a developer and individually sold. The airfield & administrative buildings of the base are owned by Carnegie Base Services. Plans have been proposed to create 1,000 additional homes adjacent to Edzell Woods, but are yet to be carried out.
