Career

Between 1959 and 1964, he served as curate at the Church of the Holy Trinity in Philadelphia. In 1964 he became the Episcopal Advisor of the University Christian Movement of Temple University, retaining the post till 1973. He also served as Sunday and pastoral assistant at the Church of the Annunciation in Philadelphia, parish consultant at St. Peter's Episcopal Church of Germantown, and lecturer in homiletics at the Philadelphia Divinity School. Between 1970 and 1973, he also served as the national chairperson of the Episcopal Peace Fellowship and between 1973 and 1982, Lee was rector of St James' Church in Florence, Italy. He also served as a deputy to General Convention representing the

, in 1976 and 1979. In 1982, he became rector of St John's Church, in Washington, D.C., where he served until 1989.
