. Driving license holders are subject to all Indonesian road rules and regulations. There is no provisional driving license in Indonesia. By definition, the license is considered both proof of registration and valid identification given to someone who has met administrative requirements, is physically and mentally healthy, understands traffic regulations and is qualified to drive a motorized vehicle. The minimum age for a license varies depending on class, starting from 17 for private cars to 23 for commercial heavy vehicles.

Violations and penalties

Every person who drives a motorized vehicle on the road without a driving license as intended in Article 77 paragraph (1) shall be punished with a maximum imprisonment of 4 (four) months or a maximum fine of Rp1,000,000,- (one million rupiah) Every person who drives a motorized vehicle on the road who cannot show a valid driving license while driving a motorized vehicle described in Article 106 paragraph (5) letter b shall be punished with imprisonment for a maximum of 1 (one) month and/or a fine of a maximum of Rp250,000,- (two hundred and fifty thousand rupiah). Apart from criminal penalties, imprisonment or fines, perpetrators of traffic crimes may be subject to additional penalties in the form of revocation of their driving license or compensation for losses caused by traffic crimes. Traffic violations on driving licenses are marked by National Police officers by recording them in the Driver Registry database electronically and/or manually. In the event that a traffic violation has reached a value of 12 (twelve) the driving license is temporarily revoked, and if it has reached 18 (eighteen) then the driving license can be revoked as an additional sanction based on a court decision.
