DIMTS was organized in 2006 to prepare, plan, design and implement complex transport related projects in

. In 2007, it was incorporated and became an equal equity joint venture between Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD) and the IDFC Foundation. The company has equal representation from both GNCTD and IDFC in its Board.
