Etymology
The alternative name of the Transbaikal, ''Dauria'', derives from the ethnonym of the former inhabitants, the
Daur people, whom Russian explorers first encountered in 1640.

Patom Plateau and
North Baikal Plateau to the Russian state borders with
Mongolia
