History

The route formerly extended to
West Point The United States Military Academy (USMA), also known Metonymy, metonymically as West Point or simply as Army, is a United States service academies, United States service academy in West Point, New York. It was originally established as a f ...
, but the segment between SR 88 and West Point was transferred to SR 26 in 1984. According to the California Streets and Highways code, SR 104 is an unfinished route as the highway's legislative designation extends past SR 49 east to SR 88. Ridge Road makes this exact connection, but it is not currently owned or maintained by Caltrans.
