Origins
The word Ciarraige means ''the people of Ciar''. Ciar was the illegitimate son of
Fergus, the King of
Ulster

Cruachan, Ciar sought refuge in
Munster. There he gained the territory for the first branch of Ciarraige, which he called Ciarraige Luachra.
