'' Cupressus dupreziana'' (Saharan cypress) is more similar, and ''C. atlantica'' is treated as a variety of it (''C. dupreziana'' var. ''atlantica'') by some authors. Moroccan cypress does not however share the unique reproductive system of male apomixis found in Saharan cypress.
