. Tanner was a star athlete in high school, lettering in football, swimming, ski team, and wrestling team. He was offered a full scholarship to play college football at the

. Tanner was a starter for the Division I NCAA football program for three seasons, winning the Western Athletic Conference (1995) and playing in the Copper Bowl (1995). Tanner is a graduate of the Air Force Academy and served in the armed forces for eight years. During his service, Tanner's passion for making movies was recognized and consequently charged with filming and editing for the United States Air Force.
