Racing career

Cormorant was purchased for $16,000 and was named after the owner's wife's sailboard. He debuted on June 22, 1976. He had a strong 1976, winning 4 out of 5 races including the October 16, 1976, Nursery Stakes. His winning ways continued into the 1977 season, where he won the Iroquois Handicap and the Grade-3
