The area now known as Cook Township was first settled in the 1800s. Many current residents are descendants of the original settlers.

The township is bordered by Donegal & Mount Pleasant Townships to the southwest, Unity Township to the northwest, Ligonier Township to the northeast, and Somerset County to the southeast.

For every 100 females, there were 100.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 100.9 males. The median household income was $39,205 and the median family income was $46,336.
