C. A. Murthy (Chivukula Anjaneya Murthy) (19582018) was a senior scientist and higher academic grade Professor of the
Indian Statistical Institute, whose primary research contributions were to the fields of pattern recognition, image processing, machine learning, neural networks, fractals, genetic algorithms, wavelets and data mining.
He was the head (2005-2010) of the Machine Intelligence Unit and professor-in-charge (2012-2014) of the Computer and Communication Sciences Division at the Indian Statistical Institute.
Education
Murthy received his B. Stat., M. Stat. and Ph.D. degrees from the Indian Statistical Institute.
He was a visiting researcher at Michigan State University in 1991-92, and Pennsylvania State University in 1996-97.
