Carlos José Argüello Gómez was born in San José, Costa Rica, on 27 July 1946, the son of Nicaraguan nationals Fernando Argüello Solórzano and Alina Gómez Argüello. He studied Legal Sciences at Universidad Centroamericana (UCA) and received his
