Hanson was a founding member of the Oregon Voter Rights Coalition, an election reform organization formed in 2005, and served as its Executive Director 2005–2007. Hanson was a PLEO (Party Leader or Elected Official) Delegate to the 2008 and 2012 Democratic National Conventions, and was an unpledged delegate to the 2020 Democratic National Convention.
