During the 2005 off-season, Newley re-joined the Forestville Eagles of the Central ABL. In six games, he averaged 24.3 points, 9.8 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game. In the 2005–06 season, Newley averaged 19.3 points, 5.1 rebounds and 4.3 assists in 32 games for the Crocodiles. After originally declaring for the 2006 NBA draft, Newley later withdrew his name and returned to the Crocodiles for the 2006–07 NBL season. He played in the 2006–07 NBL All-Star Game and was named to the All-NBL Second Team. In 35 games, he averaged 22.1 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game.
