The racial makeup of Bystrom was 2,006 (50.0%) White, 79 (2.0%) African American, 62 (1.5%) Native American, 91 (2.3%) Asian, 18 (0.4%) Pacific Islander, 1,580 (39.4%) from other races, and 172 (4.3%) from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3,053 persons (76.2%). The census reported that 3,978 people (99.3% of the population) lived in households, 30 (0.7%) lived in non-institutionalized group quarters, and no one was institutionalized. There were 1,072 households, 557 (52.0%) had children under the age of 18 living in them, 489 (45.6%) were opposite-sex married couples living together, 217 (20.2%) had a female householder with no husband present, 120 (11.2%) had a male householder with no wife present. There were 123 (11.5%) unmarried opposite-sex partnerships, and 5 (0.5%) same-sex married couples or partnerships. 172 households (16.0%) were one person and 55 (5.1%) had someone living alone who was 65 or older.
