Bente Kiilerich was born in Copenhagen, Denmark on 31 January 1954. She did her graduate studies at the

, where she earned a MA in classical archeology in 1985 and a PhD in art history in 1993. Her book ("Greek Sculpture: From Daedalic to Hellenistic") went through 8 editions between 1989 and 2007. She was appointed a professor of art history at the University of Bergen in
