Background

In May 2015, a clash between militiamen and troops of the

(LJM) in Kabkabiya lead to injuries. Attacks on farmers also continued. Kidnappings were also reported and refugees in the area were displaced.


Battle

By 23 April 2023, the town fell under the control of the Rapid Support Forces. Three employees of the World Food Programme (WFP) were killed after being caught in the crossfire at a military base. Two other staff members were injured.
