History

The station was opened by the
Belfast and County Down Railway The Belfast and County Down Railway (BCDR) was an Irish gauge () railway in Ireland (later Northern Ireland) linking Belfast with County Down. It was built in the 19th century and absorbed into the Ulster Transport Authority in 1948. All but th ...
on 1 May 1905 and was the first stop on the branch line to . Following the closure of the terminus in 1976, and the reconnection of the Bangor Line to the Newry Line via , Ballymacarrett station was closed on 9 May 1977 and replaced by the nearby Bridge End station, which was renamed "" in 2012.
