History

Bakhrabad Gas Distribution Company Limited was established on 7 June 1980 as Bakhrabad Gas Systems Limited with a responsibility to operate Bakhrabad Gas Field. The government on 31 May 1989 handed the management of Bakhrabad Gas Field to Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Limited. On 2 September 2004 the government removed Bakhrabad- Demra Transmission Pipelines from the company and handed them to Gas Transmission Company Limited. On 18 October 2004 the Bakhrabad-Chittagong Transmission Pipelines of the company were also placed under the Gas Transmission Company Limited. The various divisions of the company asset reduced the company functions to marketing and distribution only.
