Bandyopadhyay's first story was published in the magazine ''Abasar'' of Berhampore. He later penned many works, but, his masterpiece is considered to be a four-part tetralogy on the Partition; ''Nilkantha Pakhir Khonje'',"Manusher Gharbari" ''Aloukik Jalajan'' and ''Ishwarer Bagan''.
