Ray Johnson Raymond Edward "Ray" Johnson (October 16, 1927 – January 13, 1995) was an American artist. Known primarily as a collagist and correspondence artist, he was a seminal figure in the history of Neo-Dada and early Pop art and was described as
's first correspondents and the man to whom Johnson traced the beginnings of his work in Correspondance Art. Johnson sent his school friend drawings of female movie stars after Secunda's family moved away from Detroit in 1943. Secunda died on August 30, 2022, aged 94.
