Utah State won the first two games of the championship, but Hawai'i came back to win the next three, so Utah State ended up as the runnerup in 1980. She was named to the All-America team (Large Colleges) in both 1978 and 1979. She was inducted into Utah State's Athletic Hall of Fame in 1993, and as part of the team inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2008. She always felt that the order should have been reversed, explaining "I only got into the Hall of Fame because of the team. They really should have been inducted first. In volleyball, it doesn’t matter how good you are on your own. Without your team, you can’t make it.” Cottle was inducted into the
