Career

Sironi began his career in finance. In 1995, he joined the faculty at his alma mater, Bocconi University, where he subsequently became a Professor of Banking and Finance. He was a visiting scholar at the

in Washington, D.C. in 2000. Sironi served as its Rector from 2012 to 2016, when he was succeeded by Gianmario Verona. In this capacity, he encouraged faculty to publish research in English as opposed to Italian, and he promoted social mobility by waiving tuition for underprivileged students. Sironi also served as the chairman of the
