At the 2000 census, there were 3,960 people, 1,492 households, and 1,145 families living in the township. The population density was . There were 1,566 housing units at an average density of . The racial makeup of the township was 98.56% White, 0.61% African American, 0.13% Native American, 0.08% Asian, and 0.63% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.18%. Of the 1,492 households, 32.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 66.2% were married couples living together, 7.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.2% were non-families. 19.6% of households were one person and 7.3% were one person aged 65 or older. The average household size was 2.64 and the average family size was 3.04. The age distribution was 23.9% under the age of 18, 6.6% from 18 to 24, 29.1% from 25 to 44, 28.3% from 45 to 64, and 12.1% 65 or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females, there were 96.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.7 males. The median household income was $44,922 and the median family income was $48,623.
