History and organization

AAPL was founded in 1969. It currently has more than 1,500 members in North America and around the world. It publishes the quarterly '' Journal of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law''. The Academy's ''Ethics guidelines for the practice of forensic psychiatry'' form the basis of the guidelines of the Canadian Academy of Psychiatry and the Law.
