History

In Aluk Todolo, the beliefs and teachings of the life of the former Torajan people, they believe that the Torajan people come from the sky. Not only humans, but also buffalo, chickens, cotton, rain, iron, venom, and rice as the basic elements of this nature, created and sent down from the sky. It is Datu' Laukku who is considered the ancestor of mankind. It was made directly by the Creator who is called Puang Matua, from pure gold, by means of Sauan Sibarrung. Datu' Laukku and his descendants still live in the heavens for several generations, and from his descendants the first to be sent down to earth was Pong Bura Langi. On earth, Pong Bura Langi then had the first offspring and was called Pong Mula Tau. Pong Mula Tau is what is considered and referred to as the first human being. However, according to the Toraja people, Pong Bura Langi is not the only one who descended from the sky. Several descendants of Datu' Laukku also came down to Earth. Among those who descended from the sky were Puang Soloara in Sesean, Puang Tamboro Langi (Sawerigading) in Kandora, and Puang Ri Kesu on Mount Kesu. Other tribes who inhabit the area around the South Sulawesi peninsula also believe in the existence of Tomanurung in the sky, only the place of arrival varies greatly.
