Brandon was also a board member of the Gear Meat Preserving and Freezing Company until he retired in September 1935 due to ill health. In September 1886 he was elected as a City Councillor for the Thorndon Ward. A position he held until January 1891. In 1894 he was Mayor of Wellington and a member of the
