Before devoting himself to music, Otero studied
Psychology and travelled around the world. He also worked in various trades such as a sports journalist,
craftsman and cook. In 1978, at the age of twenty two, he became the lead singer of

After nearly thirty years as the head of the group, in 2008, he retired from Memphis La Blusera and released his first solo blues album in 2008 entitled ''Imán'', followed by ''El jinete del Blues'' in 2012. Otero died on June 12, 2012, after a fatal traffic accident at age 53. After his death, it was discovered that Otero was a
