in January 2018 and November 2017. Abay Weldu joined TPLF in the late 1970s and has served as a member of the executive Committees of TPLF and now defunct EPRDF since 2000. On January 10, 2021, the Ethiopian National Defense Force said that it has killed 15 members of the TPLF, including the region's former deputy police commissioner, and captured eight others, including the region's former president Abay Weldu.
