The Prime Minister of Pakistan,

, ordered an immediate inquiry into the accident. Sheikh Rasheed, the railways minister, announced a 1.5 million compensation fund for each of the families of the dead, as well as ₨0.5 million for those injured. Six railway officers were suspended after the accident.
