A team could count fewer scores if necessary; for example, the senior Bulgarian team finished last after one gymnast, Valentina Rashkova, broke her leg performing her vault and they only had two gymnasts perform on the uneven bars. The Great Britain team lead during the qualification round. In the final, the British team performed very well on the uneven bars but counted a fall on the floor event and several balance issues on the balance beam and came in second behind the Romanian team, which won their second consecutive European title.
