The final confronted the winners of the two previous editions. 1976–77 IHF Women's Cup Winners' Cup, 1977 champion and 1977-78 IHF Women's European Cup, 1978 European champion Berliner TSC defeated 1978 IHF Women's Cup Winners' Cup, defending champion Ferencvárosi TC (women's handball), Ferencvárosi TC in both games to win its third consecutive, and final, European trophy.
