Ștefan Constantin
Ștefan Constantin (born 25 June 1959 in Constanța) is a former Romanian rugby union player. He played as lock. Career Grown in the RCJ Farul Constanța youth team, along with his older brother Laurențiu he formed a lock combination that was the backbone of the club and of the Romania national team throughout the decade, winning the national title with Farul in 1986. His international debut was on 1980, during the FIRA Trophy in Constanța, during a 41–11 victory against Morocco and he was also called up for the Romania squad at the 1987 Rugby World Cup, where he played the last of his 18 international matches. Laurențiu Constantin (born 12 July 1963 in Constanța) is a former Romanian rugby union player. He played as lock. Career Grown in the RCJ Farul Constanța youth team, along with his younger brother Ștefan he formed a lock combination that was the backbone of the club and of the Romania national team throughout the decade, winning the national title with Farul in 1986. He was also part of the Steaua squad, with which he won 5 national championship titles in 1982, 1983, 1984, 1986 and 1987. His international debut was on 1983, during the FIRA Trophy in Bucharest, against Soviet Union and he was also called up for the Romania squad at the 1987 Rugby World Cup, where he played the three matches. Rugby Club Județean Farul Constanța was a semi-professional Romanian rugby union club from Constanța, which played continuously from 1970 until 2014 in the SuperLiga (rugby), CEC Bank SuperLiga, the first division of Romanian rugby. The team withdrew from the Romanian top-tier competition before the 2015 edition and ultimately disbanded. Farul Constanța was recognized by many Romanian fans as one of the best Romanian clubs outside Bucureşti as not only did they achieve consistent results by finishing within the top 4 in the SuperLiga almost every year, they were also the first and only Romanian team to play in the then known European Rugby Champions Cup, Heineken Cup (known as the European Rugby Champions Cup now), during its inaugural season in 1995–96, notably playing in the first ever match of the European Rugby Champions Cup, Heineken Cup against Stade Toulousain in Constanța. Gheorghe Dumitru
Gheorghe Dumitru (born 31 January 1952) is a Romanian former rugby union footballer and coach. He played as a lock. Career He was born in Hagieni, a village in Limanu commune, Constanța County. Dumitru mostly played for Farul Constanța, with which he was national champion, until 1989, when he moved to Bulgaria to play for Spartak Varna, winning the championship and the Bulgarian Cup. In 1990, Dumitru moved to France and became player and assistant coach for USA Limoges, which was promoted to the second tier of the French rugby. He retired in 1992, but he still played for an amateur side, Rugby Club Palaisien, which named their stadium after Dumitru. Dumitru debuted for Romania on 14 April 1973, against Spain, in Constanța, during the FIRA Trophy of that year. He contributed to the historical victories against France in 1976 (15–12) and in 1980 (15–0), Wales in 1983 (24–7) and against Scotland in 1984 (28–22). The 1987 Rugby World Cup was the first Rugby World Cup. It was co-hosted by New Zealand and Australia – New Zealand hosted 21 matches (17 pool stage matches, two quarter-finals, the third-place play-off and the final) while Australia hosted 11 matches (seven pool matches, two quarter-finals and both semi-finals).
