Ştefan Barbu (born 2 March 1908 in Arad, Romania, Arad, Austria-Hungary (now Romania) — died 30 June 1970 in Arad, Romania, Arad) was a Romanian association football, football striker, who played at the 1930 FIFA World Cup in Uruguay. Career Ştefan Barbu made his debut at Olimpia Arad. In 1921, he moved to Gloria Arad, where, aged 17, made his first senior appearance. In 1927, only nineteen years old, Barbu made his debut for Romania national football team, Romanian national team, in a 3–3 draw against Poland national football team, Poland. In 1930 Barbu was a member of the Romanian team which played at the 1930 FIFA World Cup: he played against Peru national football team, Peru and Uruguay national football team, Uruguay, without scoring any goals. His last match for the national team was in the same year, when Romania lost to Bulgaria national football team, Bulgaria. The Liga I (; ''First League''), also spelled as Liga 1, is a Romanian professional league for men's association football clubs. Currently sponsored by betting company Superbet, it is officially known as the SuperLiga. It is the country's top football competition, being contested by 16 clubs which take part in a promotion and relegation system with the Liga II. The teams play 30 matches each in the regular season, before entering the championship play-offs or the relegation play-outs according to their position in the regular table. The Liga I was established in 1909 and commenced play for the 1909–10 campaign, being currently on the 29th place in UEFA's league coefficient ranking list. The title was won by Rapid București, after they scored 3 goals in a final against CAM Timișoara. Format The competition is an annual knockout tournament with pairings for each round drawn at random. There are no seeds for the draw. The draw also determines which teams will play at home. Each tie is played as a single leg. If a match is drawn after 90 minutes, the game goes in extra time, and if the scored is still tight after 120 minutes, there a replay will be played, usually at the ground of the team who were away for the first game.
