Štefan Uher
Štefan Uher (4 July 1930 – 29 March 1993) was a Slovak film director, one of the members of the Czechoslovak New Wave. Life and work He was born in Prievidza on 4 June 1930. He graduated from the FAMU in Prague in 1955. Among his fellow students were future directors Martin Hollý Jr. and Peter Solan. All three began to work at the Koliba film studios (then called the Feature Film Studio and the Short Film Studio) in Bratislava after graduation. Uher first worked in the short film division. The first movie he directed was '' My z deviatej A'' about the life of a group of 15-year-old students and their school. His second feature was ''The Sun in a Net''. His next two movies ''The Organ'' (1964), and '' Three Daughters'' (1967) were based on screenplay by Alfonz Bednár. He worked with a composer Ilja Zeljenka on 8 of his movies. Uher's last film '' She Grazed Horses on Concrete'' (1982) has remained one of Slovakia's most popular domestic productions through the 2000s. ... Prievidza
Prievidza (; hu, Privigye, german: Priwitz) is a city in the central-western Slovakia. With approximately 46,000 inhabitants it is the second biggest municipality in the Trenčín Region and 11th List of cities and towns in Slovakia, largest city in Slovakia generally. ''Penelope'' ( sk, Penelopa) is a Slovak language, Slovak psychological drama film directed by Štefan Uher. Starring Božidara Turzonovová and Eva Kristínová, the movie was released on January 20, 1978. Similarly as with some of previous works directed by Uher, such as ''The Sun in a Net, Slnko v sieti'' (1962), he reunited with screenwriter Alfonz Bednár and cinematographer Stanislav Szomolányi. Plot Restorer Eva Kamenická (Božidara Turzonovová) arrives to the village to repair frescoes of the heroines of ancient myths for the local castle. ''She Grazed Horses on Concrete'' ( sk, Pásla kone na betóne) is a film which lays out serious topics that include a woman's capacity to hold her own in society, sexual mores, and abortion, and balances them with comedy and irony in proportions that instantly made it one of the biggest domestic blockbusters in Slovak cinema. A quarter of a century later, its DVD release sold out within weeks. The film, directed by the reputed Štefan Uher, made the women at its center stage stand for humankind as matter-of-factly as much of Central European filmmaking had been portraying men's worlds, the quiet turnaround never even became a talking point. Ilja Zeljenka
Ilja Zeljenka (21 December 1932 – 13 July 2007) was a Slovak composer. Born in Bratislava, Zeljenka studied music with Ján Cikker from 1951-1956. During the 1970s his more experimental idiom was suppressed by the Communist regime in Czechoslovakia, and he produced music based on folk music and neoromantic styles. ''Teen Kanya'' (English: Three Girls) is a 1961 Indian Bengali anthology film directed by Satyajit Ray, and based upon short stories by Rabindranath Tagore. The title means "Three Girls", and the film's original Indian release contained three stories. However, the international release of the film contained only two stories, missing the second ("Monihara: The Lost Jewels"). This version was released on VHS in 1997 under the title ''Two Daughters''. However, there are now DVD versions available that contain all three films.
