İsmet Miroğlu
İsmet Miroğlu (1944–1997) was a Turkish academic. He was a full professor at the Department of History of Istanbul University. Professor Miroğlu was born in the Bayburt province of Turkey. He was a graduate of the Department of History of Istanbul University in 1969 and was recruited as a research assistant within the same department. In 1974 he gained a degree of doctor of history (PhD) by his dissertation titled "The Sandjak of Bayburt in the 16th Century" (''16. Yüzyılda Bayburt Sancağı'', in Turkish). In 1981, Miroğlu became an associate professor of history by his dissertation on the Sandjak of Kemah. In 1989 he became a full professor. Between 13 May 1987 and 31 December 1990, Professor İsmet Miroğlu was the Director General of the Turkish State Archives, an institution attached to the Prime Minister's office of the Republic of Turkey. Bayburt
Bayburt () is a city in northeast Turkey lying on the Çoruh River and is the provincial capital of Bayburt Province. According to the 2021 census the population is determined as around 82,274. Bayburt was once an important center on the ancient Silk Road. It was visited by Marco Polo and Evliya Çelebi. Remains of its medieval castle still exist. There are several historical mosques, Turkish baths, and tombs in the city. There are also ancient historical sites such as the Çatalçeşme Underground Complex and natural wonders like the Sirakayalar Waterfall in the other parts of the province.
