Đặng Văn Ngữ
Đặng Văn Ngữ (1910–1967) was a Vietnamese medical doctor and intellectual. Biography Ngu was born on the outskirts of Huế on April 4, 1910. In 1937, he graduated from the Indochina Medical University. He became an assistant to the French physician and professor Henry Galliard, dean of the Department of Bacteriology at the school. In 1942, he directed the bacteriology lab and completed 19 research topics. In 1943, he studied in Japan, and became the President of the Patriotic Vietnamese Society in Japan in 1945. In 1949, he returned to Vietnam and joined the Viet Minh resisting against French rule, becoming the lead lecturer in bacteriology in the Medical School at Chiêm Hóa. During his time in the Viet Minh, he successfully researched a method to manufacture penicillin. Annamite Range
The Annamite Range or the Annamese Mountains (french: Chaîne annamitique; lo, ພູ ຫລວງ ''Phou Luang''; vi, Dãy (núi) Trường Sơn) is a major mountain range of eastern Indochina, extending approximately through Laos, Vietnam, and a small area in northeast Cambodia. The mountain range is also referred to variously as Annamese Range, Annamese Mountains, Annamese Cordillera, Annamite Mountains and Annamite Cordillera. The name "Annam" is the Vietnamese pronunciation and terminology of zh, c=安南 (Pinyin: ''Ān Nán''), meaning "to pacify the south" referring to Vietnam. The French adopted the word and used "Annamese" or "Annamite" to refer to the Vietnamese. The highest points of the range are the -high Phou Bia, the -high Phu Xai Lai Leng and the -high Ngoc Linh, Ngọc Linh (Ngoc Pan). Nhân Văn–Giai Phẩm Affair
The ''Nhân Văn-Giai Phẩm'' affair ( vi, Phong Trào Nhân Văn-Giai Phẩm) was a cultural-political movement in North Vietnam in the late 1950s. Two periodicals were established during that time, Nhân Văn (, ''Humanities'') and Giai Phẩm (, ''Masterpieces''), many issues of which were published demanding freedom of speech, creativity and human rights. Following a loosening of political restrictions with some similarities to the Chinese Hundred Flowers Campaign, there was a hardening of attitudes. After those two major journals were closed down, their political associates were imprisoned or reeducated. Moreover, the agenda of ''Nhân Văn-Giai Phẩm'' was linked to "reactionary" political projects by North Vietnamese government. Malaria
Malaria is a mosquito-borne infectious disease that affects humans and other animals. Malaria causes symptoms that typically include fever, tiredness, vomiting, and headaches. In severe cases, it can cause jaundice, seizures, coma, or death. Symptoms usually begin ten to fifteen days after being bitten by an infected mosquito. If not properly treated, people may have recurrences of the disease months later. In those who have recently survived an infection, reinfection usually causes milder symptoms. This partial resistance disappears over months to years if the person has no continuing exposure to malaria. Malaria is caused by single-celled microorganisms of the ''Plasmodium'' group.
