Þórður Friðjónsson
Thordur Fridjonsson (2 January 1952 – 8 February 2011) was an Icelandic economist and institutional leader. Career Thordur Fridjonsson was chief executive of the NASDAQ OMX Iceland from 2002. Previous positions included being the General Director of the National Economic Institute from 1987 and Secretary General of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce (1998–1999). On Iceland’s behalf, Fridjonsson was a member of the Economic Policy Committee at OECD, an Alternate Governor at IMF and EBRD and Chairman of the Nordic Project Fund. Prior to this he was an economic advisor to Prime Minister's Gunnar Thoroddsen (1980–1983) and Steingrimur Hermannsson (1983–1986), lecturer at the Economic Department of the University of Iceland (1982–1987) and economist to the Association of Icelandic Manufacturers (Félag íslenskra iðnrekenda) (1978–1980). Iceland
Iceland ( is, Ísland; ) is a Nordic island country in the North Atlantic Ocean and in the Arctic Ocean. Iceland is the most sparsely populated country in Europe. Iceland's capital and largest city is Reykjavík, which (along with its surrounding areas) is home to over 65% of the population. Iceland Stock Exchange
The Nasdaq Iceland, formerly known as the Iceland Stock Exchange (XICE) ( is, Kauphöll Íslands), is a stock exchange located in Iceland. It was established in 1985 as a joint venture of several banks and brokerage firms on the initiative of the central bank. Trading began in 1986 in Icelandic government bonds, and trading in equities began in 1991. Equities trading increased rapidly thereafter. A wide variety of firms are currently listed on the exchange, including firms in retail, fishing, transportation, banks, insurance and numerous other areas. Because of the small size of the Icelandic economy and the low cost of public listing, many of the companies traded on the XICE are relatively small and are relatively illiquid. All domestic trading of Icelandic bonds, equities and mutual funds takes place on the XICE. Bonds and equities are regularly traded, though the liquidity is small in comparison with other exchanges. Morgunblaðið
''Morgunblaðið'' (, ''The Morning Paper'') is an Icelandic newspaper. ''Morgunblaðið''s website, mbl.is, is the most popular website in Iceland. History ''Morgunblaðið'' was founded by Vilhjálmur Finsen and Ólafur Björnsson, brother of Iceland's first president. The first issue, only eight pages long, was published on 2 November 1913. On 25 February 1964, the paper first printed a caricature by Sigmúnd Jóhannsson which featured the first landings on Surtsey. He became a permanent cartoonist for ''Morgunblaðið'' in 1975 and worked there until October 2008. In a controversial decision, the owners of the paper decided in September 2009 to appoint Davíð Oddsson, a member of the Independence Party, Iceland's longest-serving Prime Minister and former Governor of the Central Bank, as one of the two editors of the paper.
