Ümit Besen
Ümit Besen (born 14 October 1956) is a Turkish musical artist representing the darker side of Tarabya school of electronic music. He started his professional career by playing keyboards and singing with his band at the local clubs in Adana, Southern Turkey. While he was in the army for his compulsory military service, a brigadier-general liked his style and appointed him to sing at the officers' mess. Rising popularity After the completion of his 18 months service he returned to Adana. While singing and playing to make his living one day Turkish football legend Metin Oktay visited the club he was working at. Amazed by the power of his voice and his knowledge of synthesizers, Metin Oktay recommended him to his club owner friends in Istanbul. In Istanbul, he kept playing at famous clubs and finally he was teamed up with songwriters Selami Şahin and Ahmet Selçuk İlkan to record his first LP. The result was not only a commercial success. Osmaniye
Osmaniye () is a city on the eastern edge of the Çukurova plain in southern Turkey and the capital of Osmaniye province. Selami Şahin
Selami Sahin (born 1948) is a Turkish musician, singer, and songwriter. Life and career Şahin's works have been performed in different languages by artists from European and Middle Eastern countries. He was born to a mother of Egyptian Arab descent settled in Hatay and a Turkish father. He knows not only Turkish but also Arabic as mother tongues. Owing to his mother, he speaks in Arabic of Egyptian accent first. Since Arabic is his mother tongue, he has also participated in joint projects with many famous figures such as Ghada Ragab and Enrico Macias. Metin Oktay (2 February 1936 – 13 September 1991) nicknamed the Uncrowned King ( tr, Taçsız Kral) by Galatasaray fans, was a Turkish footballer and one of the most successful goal scorers in Turkey. Early life Metin Oktay was born in Karşıyaka, İzmir, on 2 February 1936. His father was a factory worker and his mother a homemaker. Personal life Metin Oktay married Servet Kardicali on 12 May 1965, in Istanbul. On 9 February 1965, the couple had a daughter who was named by Metin Oktay as "Zeynep". Arabesque ( tr, Arabesk) is a style of music created in Turkey. The genre was particularly popular in Turkey from the 1960s through the 2000s. Its aesthetics have evolved over the decades. Its melodies are influenced by espesically Arab Music, the music of Southeastern Europe and the Middle East, including bağlama music and Ottoman forms of oriental music. Arabesque music are mostly in a minor key, typically in the Phrygian mode, and themes tend to focus on longing, melancholy, strife and love issues. Description and history A very small percentage of Arabesque is exclusively instrumental. For the great majority of it, a singer lies at the center of the music. Male singers dominated the genre in its early years, but female singers probably predominated during its peak years of popularity.
